PDF3D Toolkit Enhances Features for Publishing 3D PDF Content
New PDF3D™ Library version 1.1 adds technical features and Visual Studio support, enabling "Save As 3D PDF" document generation for users of the free Adobe® Reader.
PDF3D™ technology enables publishing 3D visualization, designs, models and data, harnessing the free Adobe® PDF Reader. The development toolkit PDF3D SDK version 1.1 enables 3D data generation and publishing of 3D PDF interactive content, adding key features of compression, VCT, file append and support for Microsoft® Visual Studio 2005.
The PDF3D™ SDK (Software Development Kit) Library enables applications with 3D data to publish, share and distribute interactive models using Adobe's ubiquitous support for 3D viewing PDF files. Version 1.1 adds new compression, for up to 50% reduction in file size. A new system for Vertex Color Textures (VCT) improves visual fidelity for scientific data visualization. 3D content pages can now be appended and inserted into existing PDF documents. Batch and command-line examples illustrate new deployment models. The toolkit platform support is now extended to cover both Microsoft® Visual Studio 2003 and 2005 software development environments and includes a C# .NET 2 integration example.
With all the new features, ISVs and application developers can now more easily add "Save As 3D PDF" menus using the PDF3D SDK, avoiding other intermediary file formats (U3D) or external conversion programs. When models are embedded in a PDF file, recipients can rotate, zoom, pan, set transparency and examine part hierarchies of 3D models while reading the document.
The PDF3D™ C++ geometric software component library is designed for any developer with 3D data to publish. Specific solution examples using the library are provided for Manufacturing, Energy, Geospatial, Aerospace and Engineering sectors, including connectors for VTK (Visualization Tool Kit) based applications. Software vendors supplying 3D modelling and analysis tools will benefit from PDF3D OEM licensing, allowing their end-users to accelerate 3D visualization and collaboration with the trusted PDF format, including attribute and background information in the same document file.
PDF3D compliments and enhances Adobe's strategic direction: "Our vision is for 3D to become as commonplace as JPEGs are today for communicating ideas and concepts through U3D and establishing a 'new' international language for business dialogue in an e-document environment".
Integration of the PDF3D SDK by ISV's keeps pace with sophisticated user demand, by letting users generate 3D content without forcing them to buy third party file converters or enabling publication for the first time where no converters exist. ISV's can quickly leverage PDF innovation, taking full advantage of the latest from Adobe® and Intel® Corporate Technology Group, backed by industry standards.
